140th Young Women Anniversary

The celebration of Young Women Organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Young Women was done last Saturday (Nov. 21, 2009). It was the 140th! The leaders made it sporty and enjoying, as usual. Fun.

Our ward, Imus, and the Noveleta Ward were joined as a team - same as other wards in Cavite Stake. We have plenty of parlor games, cook-off and cheering presentation.

The first thing we do was parading from SM Rosario to the Rosario Chapel. Phew. It's just a short walking but it was tiring because to that hot sun. Argh. Activity was officially opened. We've presented our cheering as well as the other teams. Our team, Green Team, was first on the line. We presented first.

Then, after that body-sweating cheering, we had a short break. Haha. Yeah, just a very short break. The "cooks" and the "table setters" prepared by wearing their costumes. A chef uniform.:D

The cook-off began!

After the judging or the foods, we hurriedly grabbed the spoons and forks to taste the dishes. Thanks for the foods, they saved our hunger. Hahaha! The Tofu Sisig was the one I loved in all those dishes. I can't stop myself to spoon more after every taste.

After that "food-attacking", we took our lunch. TAPSILOG! whooh! yummy.
Rest.

Parlor Games time!!!!

We had "Pinoy Henyo", "Gulaman game" (what?), "Relays", "Patagalan ng Yelo sa Kamay", "Padamihan ng Holen ng Makukuha Gamit ang Paa" and some more. I just can't name the games. Take a look the pictures, you'll determine it. I hope so.

me..running for Gold. haha

i was trying to escape from the hole of the tire! it was unbelievable that i fit in! :D

the BORED ones. waiting and watching game.

eating some coolers.yum.

After those happenings, awarding time na! We've received a Silver Award for Table Setting, Over All Champion, and an Award for the Best Cooked Dishes. Ayiii.

Sharing jokes with other young women happened while waiting for others to go home. Ugh. That was a tiring but enjoying day. And it was memorable. Why? Because it gave me too much fun and that activity made my throat sore, giving me a "froggy" sound. hahaha.

facts?

An email was sent through my Yahoo mailbox. I was a little bit annoyed with this because all foods listed here were my favorites. Argh. I don't know if this is true. I guess, it is true because there's an explanation. I want to share what those are.

Brain Damaging Habits

1. No Breakfast
People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower. This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.

2 . Overeating=2 0
It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.

3. Smoking
It causes multiple brain shirnage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar consumption
Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution
The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6 . Too much Sleeping
Sleep allows our brain to rest.. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells..

7. Head covered while sleeping
Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness
Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts
Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely
Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain

The main causes of liver damage are:

1. Sleeping too late and waking up too late are main cause.
2. Not urinating in the morning.
3 . Too much eating.
4. Skipping breakfast.
5. Consuming too much medication.
6. Consuming too much preservatives, additives,
7. Consuming unhealthy As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil. Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is very fit.
8. Consuming raw (overly done) foods also add to the burden of liver. Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store. We should prevent this without necessarily spending more. We just have to adopt a good daily lifestyle and eating habits. Maintaining good eating habits and time condition are very important for our bodies to absorb and get rid of unnecessary chemicals according to 'schedule.'

The top five cancer-causing foods are:

1.. Hot Dogs

Because they are high in nitrates, the Cancer Prevention Coalition advises that children eat no more than 12 hot dogs a month. If you can't live without hot dogs, buy those made without sodium nitrate.

2. Processed meats and Bacon

Also high in the same sodium nitrates found in hot dogs, bacon, and other processed meats raise the risk of heart disease. The saturated fat in bacon also contributes to cancer.

3. Doughnuts

Doughnuts are cancer-causing double trouble. First, they are made with white flour, sugar, and hydrogenated oils, then fried at high temperatures. Doughnuts, says Adams , may be the worst food you can possibly eat to raise your risk of cancer.

4. French fries
Like doughnuts, French fries are made with hydrogenated oils and then fried at high temperatures. They also contain cancer- causing acryl amides which occur during the frying process. They should be called cancer fries, not French fries, said Adams .

5. Chips, crackers, and cookies

All are usually made with white flour and sugar. Even the ones whose labels claim to be free of trans-fats generally contain small amounts of trans-fats.

whoah! I can't believe that my favorite foods were listed there. Haha. Okay. I'm trying not to take those foods again...yeah, again. :)

AstroCamp

Our [4th year] AstroCamp was held last November 14, 2009 Saturday at our school. T'was very fun and full of excitement. Even if we don't have sleep in that whole night, still we enjoyed the activity with the stars, night sky, and the astronomers.

In fact, I've learned so many things about our solar system. I liked that. I jot down all the new things. Planet Jupiter was the one that amazed me most. That planet is full of mysteries that made my mind twist and made me thrilled. :)

That one-night camp will not be possible and enjoying with these fantastic astronomers. I can't believe their knowledge about the stars and other heavenly bodies. They can point the location of a star or a constellation and it's name with their special laser. Unbelievable.

I'll share the thing that I've learned during AstroCamp.

Constellations
Andromeda
Perseus
Cassiopeia
Cepheus
Cygnus
Lacerta
Camelopardalis
Auriga
Taurus
Orion
Eridanus
Phoenix
Sculptor
Tucana
Pegasus
Pisces
Aries
Lynx
Ursa Major
Ursa Minor
Indus

Yeah. I know that I've not listed all the Constellations. The PowerPoint presentation was too fast. haha.

Orion Constellation is composed of these brightest stars: Betelgeuse, Meissa, Bellatrix, Alnitak, Saiph, M42 (Great Orion Nebulla), Alnilam, Mintaka, and Rigel.

Winter Triangle is made of Procyon (Canis Minor), Sirius (Canis Major, the brightest star), and Betelgeuse.

Capella - "red star"

Polaris is also known the North Star. This is the only star that stay on its place though that stars move across the sky. An observer on earth north or south pole would find the celestial north or south pole directly overhead because earth axis is identical with that of the celestial sphere.

Next is the Planet Jupiter, the thing that fascinates me most, featuring the Great Red Spot.

Planet Jupiter needs 10 earth day to complete its rotation. In 1979, Jupiter was discovered that it has a ring which believed that it was made by the dust coming from the outside moons.

Jupiter's Great Red Spot is made of a huge space of mass. In that place, hurricane is 10x greatter than the hurricane in Earth. There is no water in the Great Red Spot. Non-stop thunders and strong winds are everywhere. It is really impossible to survive in that place. Its jet stream is 3 times the jet stream of the Earth. It has four moons that was discovered by Galileo Galilei.
IO is the major moon of the Jupiter that has 100 volcanoes. Its surface is covered by sulfur in different colorful forms .Ganymede has a size 5x to the Earth's moon. It is considered as the largest satellite in the solar system. Callisto is the third largest satellite. It has a diameter of 4,800km. Europa's surface has a "cracked", smooth and glassy appearance. As some astronomers believe, under the crust of the Europa is water. It has 3-5km ice cap. There are darkness and high-pressure. Wii. pretty scary huh?

Mars the "Red Planet"
The size of the Planet Mars is just a half of the Earth's size. It has a magnetic field that protects from the emission of the Sun. In this planet, water is unstable because water evaporates easily. Its highest volcano has a height of 15 miles. Its atmosphere has no oxygen.

Pluto
The name "Pluto" was named after a Underworld god. The average distance of Pluto to the Sun is 5.9B kilometers. It has a diameter of 2,360km. It takes 248 years to complete its revolution around the Sun and rotates on its orbit for 6.8 earth days. Pluto has at least three moons: the Charon, Nix, and Hydra. Temperature surface is -233C and has a gravity about 6% of Earth's.

What happened to Pluto?

1. Since the early 1900's, astronomers rare found several objects of comparable size to Pluto in an outer region of the Solar System called the Kupier Belt.
2. The critical blow or Pluto came with the discovery three years ago of an object currently designated 2003 Ub313.

Pluto became a "dwarf planet" from an "official planet" because it didn't passed the planet criteria: it must be in orbit around the Sun, it should be round in shape or must be big enough for gravity to squash it into a round ball, and it must have cleared its orbit of other objects.

New Dwarf Planets

-Eris (satellite: Dysnomia)
-Pluto (satellite: Charon, Nix and Hydra)
-Ceres
-Makemake
-Haumea (satellite: Hi'iaka and Namaka)

These are the things that I've written in my notebook. Pretty interesting that's why I wrote all of these. Unfortunately, I haven't jotted all the lectures in my note. Now, I want to share the pictures during this camp.
